Using CloudGPS
Your current location is shown as blue dot on screen. The dot turns green when GPS is fixed. The bars in upper right section of the screen show signal strenght of GPS satellites. They turn brighter for satellites that are currently active.

Touchscreen controls:
Tap zoom in/zoom out buttons to change zoom level by 1 or hold to change by few levels. Hold shift while touching zoom buttons to change zoom level by a fraction. Tap "my location" button (the one with blue dot) to toggle following your current location (and direction in 3D mode and when rotation is enabled in 2D mode). Goggles icon is used for searching. Compass icon shows current view direction and toggles rotation mode in 2D. Rest of screen is used for kinetic scrolling.

You can tap and hold anywhere on map to invoke popup menu. By choosing "Directions from here" or "Directions to here" you can start routing. Route has a green marker with letter "A" on starting point and green marker with letter "B" on destination. You can tap and hold one of those markers and then drag it (if you are near screen edge the map will scroll for you) to another place. This will trigger route recalculation.

Route is saved locally and when it was displayed during last CloudGPS session it will be restored without using network on next startup. Turn by turn instructions are displayed when current position is near route. Also distance to destination and distance to next instruction is displayed.

In 3D mode and when rotation mode is enabled upper part of screen is used to rotate view.

When search bar is active keys are used as text input. Only ASCII characters supported right now. Use Enter to search query.

Tap on any map marker on screen to get it center.

Basic Keyboard controls
Developement
Requested Features
Planned Features
Changelog
Version 0.5.7
* Fixed: crash for some search results when using Cloudmade
* Fixed: distance to destination was not accurate
* Fixed: popup misaligned/not showing when map is rotated
* Fixed: markers lying on ground in 3D
* Fixed: route flickered when used together with gps
* Fixed: map was sometimes not shown due to arithmetic error saved in config file
* Fixed: message display time on statusbar was too short
Version 0.5.5
* Route calculation using CloudMade and Google Maps (press R to cycle): press and hold on map to invoke popup menu, select Directions from/to here. You can also tap and drag route start or end and route will be recalculated.
* Turn by turn instructions are displayed on locations near route (within 30 meters). Distance to next turn by turn direction is calculated as well as distance to route destination (this one is not accurate due to some bug).
* Route is rendered with rounded lines. Line thickness is calculated automatically based on current zoom level.
* Last calculated route is stored locally and reloaded (without using network) on next startup.
* Route overview flyby – camera will follow route drom start to end. Press D to activate.
* Off-line mode (press Z to toggle).
* Added UNICODE to ASCII conversion on every string returned from search and routing providers.
The wait is over!

We are proud to announce the Coding Competition 2011!

As successor it will follow the good example of the community driven Maemo Coding Competition 2010. Quim Gil wrote lot of good things about this "grass roots community success".

To make this year's competition bigger and better, we urge all MeeGo enthusiasts to organize events during the MeeGo Coding Competition 2011 in their Local MeeGo Network. We are sure that Intel and Nokia are going to assist you doing that. Please [mailto:info@meetmeego.org contact us] to get in touch with Intel and Nokia.

Events
The MeeGo Coding Competition is not an event restricted to one city or country! Everyone can and should participate! Local MeeGo Events and Intel AppLabs will take place in different cities and countries.

Local MeeGo Network Berlin
The Local MeeGo Network Berlin has planned the following events using the name "MeeGo Freeday".
The events in Berlin will be streamed live.

Coding Qt - Workshop - 2011-04-01
Qt is a framework for a cross-platform application development. Qt is pre-installed on our beloved Nokia N900. Software development using Qt is also possible for MeeGo, Symbian and WebOS. All these platforms support Qt. There are also libraries for desktop systems, like Windows, Mac OS and Linux available. Unofficially, it is also running on Android and iOS.

Therefore, Qt is a very good base if you want to publish your app on as many platforms as possible!

You never coded using Qt? You are already a Qt pro and want to work with Qt developers? You still have questions? Then come to the Qt Workshop on 01 April 2011 in the c-base in Berlin! The Qt gurus of Qt Berlin are present and help you with advice and support!
By all this Qt-iness don’t forget the next step: publish your app in the largest MeeGo AppStores: Intel AppUp and Nokia Ovi.

Streaming
You can watch the recorded video of the "Code Qt!" Workshop at the following link. The language is English: http://t.co/kGvEQRR

Nokia Ovi Workshop 2011-04-15
Therefore, on 15 April 2011 there will be the Ovi workshop also in the c-base in Berlin. In this workshop Nokia's specialists will teach you the process of publishing your app to the Ovi-Store.
Then you are a true Ovi professional. And who knows? Maybe there will be new info about Nokia's secret MeeGo / Maemo device?

Intel AppLab 2011-04-29
On 29 April 2011, we bring you the Intel AppLab to Berlin (of course also in the c-base)!
During the AppLab coding examples are shown and you will submit your app to the Intel AppUp store. At previous AppLabs developers got MeeGo hardware to take home. This time? Come and see for yourself!

Timeline
The Competition runs from 01 April 2011 to 30 June 2011. After that the winners will be elected by the community.

Prizes
Apart from the educational events and the fun at coding there is a lot more for you!

Developers of promising apps will probably receive a MeeGo device.

If you will be elected by the community as one of the main winners, you will fly to the MeeGo Conference in November and sleep there in a nice hotel. There you will meet a lot of like-minded. Without having to pay a single cent.

If Nokia likes your app, they will preinstall it on their first MeeGo device!

But even if you won’t win one of the main prizes, that does not mean you get nothing! We will have cash prizes this time, too. Independent of sponsorship funds, last time the community extensively donated. About $1000.00 came together! Will we be able to beat this record-sum this year? == Rules ==

To ensure that the event runs properly, there are a few essential rules:

Only individuals may participate. Companies are excluded from the competition because of equity reasons.

If you have coded your app in a team and you win one of the travels to the MeeGo Conference, your team has to designate one person as the winner.

Any number of apps can be submitted and elected as winner.

Apps must be uploaded as executable including at least two screen shots and a brief description on a yet to be named website to take part in the election. The applications have to run on default hardware running on an official version of Maemo or MeeGo.

All applications, which are created and uploaded during the duration of the Competition will take part in the election. For existing programs, only progress which has been made during the Competition will be considered. When porting apps, only the work of porting will be considered, unless the original program is from the same programmer and was developed or extended in the Competition timeframe.

Only users of maemo.org and meego.com who are registered at the time of voting for at least four months are entitled to vote.

There is no legal right to win.

More details regarding the election process to follow.

FAQ
Q: It is obligatory to code in Qt?

A: No, it isn't, but it would make your life probably a lot easier because you will be able to reach more platforms. We encourage everyone to use Qt.

Q: Will the developers select the category when they join the competition or will someone sort it into the correct category before the voting begins?

A: They will choose the category for their app, but everyone should keep an eye on that. Before the voting process starts we'll check if every app is in a reasonable category, so that it is not possible to cheat by choosing the category with the lowest competition.

Application proposal
If you would like to have an App but you can't code yourself, write it down here! Many devs are happy to get a new idea input.

An improved version of Classic Print with more predefined effects like old fashioned pictures, black and white, etc. Also the ability to add text.
What is it?
Seamless Software Update (SSU), is the term Nokia formerly used for over-the-air updates of Maemo (generally marketed as Maemo Update as of Maemo 5).

The Community Seamless Software Update (CSSU) is being developed by the Maemo community as a continuation of, and expansion on, Nokia's update support. It aims to deliver fixes which would be difficult to deliver through Extras (like core Maemo packages). It won't, however, bundle software which can be installed through the Extras repositories.

There are two such efforts for the Maemo platform. This page describes the one for Fremantle (Maemo 5, as used in the Nokia N900). The Diablo Community Project is doing the same for Diablo (Maemo 4.1, as used in the Nokia N800, N810 and N810 WiMAX Edition).
<br clear="all">
# Click on the Install testing button above. (http://j.mp/communityssu for a quick link to this page from your N900)
# Hildon Application Manager (HAM) will launch and begin processing (be patient). There are a series of installations for which it will prompt you with messages and warnings. Click "Accept" and "Done" for each to install.
# Once this is completed, close HAM and go into the applications menu. Tap the Community SSU icon. This will run through a series of scripts to ensure the community repository are set up.
# HAM will re-open and present a system upgrade called Maemo 5 Community SSU. Once installed, your device will reboot.
Want to organise? There's still lots of process left to organise; hopefully there'll be bugs and features to triage and manage in bugs.maemo.org as well as communication of the testing, releases and end-user readiness of the CSSU.
The Diablo Community Project is doing the same for Diablo (Maemo 4.1, as used in the Nokia N800, N810 and N810 WiMAX Edition).
<br clear="all">

Who is it for?
Long-term: all N900 users/owners.

For now: power-users, developers, Nokia/Maemo/MeeGo engineers, testers, documentation writers and those willing to risk a re-flash in order to help.

Installation
# Make sure you're running PR1.3, Nokia's last official Maemo 5 update. To see if you have PR1.3, go into Settings > About product, you should see under Version it has the numbers beginning with 20.2010.36.
# Click on the Install testing button above. (use http://j.mp/communityssu as a quick link to this page from your Nokia N900)
# Hildon Application Manager (HAM) will launch and appear to be doing nothing but after a second or three it will display the first installation, so be patient. In all, there are a series of installations for which HAM will prompt you with messages and warnings. Click "accept" and "done" for each and let HAM install all the community packages.
# Once done (ie. no further install prompts appear after some while), close HAM and go into the applications menu. Look for Community SSU and launch it. This will then automatically run through a series of scripts to ensure HAM will now be using community repository for updates.
# HAM will re-open and present a system upgrade called Maemo 5 Community SSU. Once installed, your device will reboot.

Can you write documentation? If so, it'd be great to flesh out the wiki page with installation instructions (to make it easy for users to install without worrying about missing a step or getting it wrong); explain more about the SSU and generally spruce up the wiki page and maintain things like the changelogs etc.

Were you involved in developing Maemo? If so, with Nokia now looking to Harmattan and MeeGo, we'd love to see your itches addressed in the Community SSU (CSSU). Have you always wanted to implement something in hildon-desktop, but Management stood in your way? We'd love to have it!

Have you written a patch for Maemo? Raise a bug and let's get it in the CSSU.

Are you a developer? There are numerous patches floating around for hildon-desktop; but they can't be included in the CSSU until they are configurable (via gconf) and default to off.

Want to test? Not only testing this release, but writing test scripts so that each release of the CSSU can get sanity checked before unleashing it into a "stable" repo for end-users. How do we do it? What should be tested? How is it organised?

Want to organise? There's still lots of process left to organise; hopefully there'll be bugs and features to triage and manage in bugs.maemo.org as well as communication of the testing, releases and end-user readiness of the CSSU.
QA and bugs
Community SSU/QA

Quality is of paramount importance to the Community SSU. There are, therefore, two repositories: testing and stable. Changes are carefully tested, with an extensive set of tests, before things are made "stable".

If you have found a bug, in either the testing or stable releases, please raise a bug. Getting involved through testing, bug triaging and running of the tests is a good way to get involved; as, of course, is writing documentation!

Development
Community SSU/Development

The Community SSU is developed and managed through Gitorious. Bugs are tracked in Bugzilla. Collaboration largely happens on IRC. Getting involved through development, bug triaging and managing developers is a good way to get involved.
