What about Gijon or Oviedo in Spain?

Ok, ok, perhaps they are not the biggest cities in Spain, but the regional opensource community/LUG (AsturLiNUX) is celebrating its 10th years and they would help on everything. Since 2000 we have been spreading opensource in embedded devices, and lately Maemo. We have also created a
community about "open mobile" (OMAG), and we are working on a Spanish Gnome meeting (with some talks dedicated to Maemo too). So, I think that Maemo Summit would be a "great end" for 2009.

Despite that, there are other organizations (public and private) interested on managing and supporting an event like this. Places:
* Laboral
* Congress Palace

OSiM World will be organized in Amsterdam between 15th and 18th september.

LinuxCon is in Portland, Oregon, from Sept 21st to Sept 23th.
: I don't think we are prepared for organizing an event in the USA this year having the key contributors (many of them in Europe, including the huge majority of the Maemo SW team). Specially difficult in these times of budget optimizations.--qgil 07:44, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Also, expect visa problems for everybody whose country has no visa waiver program with the US.

Berlin and c-base again
As commented in the maemo-community thread. We would need to look closer at the price of moving away from a co-located event and the risk of not getting enough infrastructure to handle a bigger attendance.--qgil 07:46, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

If choosing another location we (the community / Nokia) have to pay lots of money to pay the place... well, I agree with C-base too.--Andrea Grandi 10:20, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
This is my suggestion since there are lots of embedded / mobile phone people in the Nordics, what with Ericsson, Nokia, Trolltech, etc.

195.161.50.68: /* Using Extras */

Extras is the primary repository for Maemo applications where most community software can be found. Among many excellent software projects distributed through Extras are Canola, OMWeather, and others.

Using Extras
To enable Extras repository, just open this link on your tablet.

You can also enable it by hand:
* Go into the Application manager.
* Tap the menu -> Tools -> Application catalog...
* Double-tap maemo Extras.
* Uncheck Disabled.

Note that there is currently (July 08) a minor problem with Diablo Extras (see upgrading tablet OS). Fortunately, most Chinook application packages will run without a glitch on Diablo, so you should use Chinook Extras until proper Diablo Extras repository comes online. In order to use Chinook Extras:

* Go into the Application manager.
* Tap the menu -> Tools -> Application catalog...
* Double-tap maemo Extras.
* Type chinook into Distribution field.

Note that if you are running Diablo, the empty Distribution field is equivalent to typing diablo there.

About Extras
Extras is split into two areas:
* free applications are Open Source have been through the Maemo Extras vetting process
* non-free applications are usually closed, binary only and their quality and security must be taken on trust

Anyone interested in contributing to Extras should look at the Extras repository process definition.

Extras-devel
Extras has a development repository called "Extras-devel", where not-yet-ready-for-prime-time package testing goes on and where new alpha and beta versions of software are frequently made available before they're pushed to Extras proper. This repository is not recommended for regular usage unless you are interested in testing software that may potentially break your system, or need a specific package out of this repository.
